Our Last Week – Whenever You Read IT

Three and a half week in the U.S. and I am still waiting on that particular day, where the landscape will be just boring. I am pretty sure somewhere in the U.S. that will be the case, but we yet have to get there, and honestly the roads have been pretty fun thus far as well. Regardless there are a lot of things I do not understand about the U.S., would like to though. Oh and please that is not supposed to be a bashing of any kind, I just do not understand.
Prices, that whole tax comes on top, I mean I get that there is not just one tax, there are many possible taxes to be added, so why do I as the customer have to know what kind of taxes, and which percentage of the base price comes on top. I mean there is this thing called databases, you put that in, and voila the full price comes out, for me as a customer that is like super important to know before I pay, what I am gonna pay. And yeah I am not interested how much money I give to whom, the company, the county, the state, the federation, in my mind I anyway give it to you, the company, as you are the one having an item I am buying.
And while we are talking about prices, value for money, seems to me a little light in some parts, like accommodation. I do not mind paying for accommodation, and paying more for nice accommodation. However I have the feeling the price is optimized towards as little service as possible, as little employees as possible, but still a rather hefty sum considering. And if you do have an accommodation that serves breakfast, why is everything being done in single use dishes. Still cannot get over this I have to admit.
So this pacific coast line is marvelous, really great to look and last week we stopped in one of these coastal towns. A forever beach, a lot of beachfront property where one could book a room, but almost no restaurant or bar, not even in the beach front properties, where you could go have a drink or two, sit there staring at the see while the sun is setting and the surf is being pushed by the wind. Do you really not spend money on something like that. For the sunset itself quite a lot of people came to the beach, they left as soon as the sun finished sinking into the sea – was windy and a bit on the cooler side – would some of them have stayed behind for dusk if they could sip a cool beverage (does not need to be an alcoholic one).
Sit down and relax, without being shooed away because someone cannot stand the enjoyment of life, or at least that is what it feels like to me sometime. The someone in the sentence before would not be someone specific, then rather the U.S. society, but is it really like that, or did I just get the feeling as i may not yet have been to the right places.
Anyway before I go on and on, a big thank you to the guys from Cycle Gear Redding, who helped us with our tire change. And they did the tire change while we were in their parking lot removing and installing the wheels, which took all in all 90 minutes for both motorcycles. There is a little time lapse about the tire change we put together. And it was the first time, we removed the front wheels of our bikes.

Wednesday: Shelter Cove – Redding

Just beautiful landscape, and a late in the day booking surprise. Stefan found a room in Redding with kitchenette and breakfast for a reasonable price. Wifi was a bit spotty but you cannot have everything, and we managed to put a blog post out ;-).

Thursday: Redding

Tire change day. Called ahead to see when the best time would be, and we concluded that around midday would be best, well damn, had about 40°C but, we found a shady spot to do the work. Went very smooth and 90 mins later it was all done. Hope we will find another store being this helpful, if we do need another set of tires.

Friday: Redding

Blogging, Running oh and Stefan put the kitchenette to good use, and prepared a yummy dinner.

Saturday: Redding – Whiskeytown National Recreation Area

One of our shortest trips thus far, about 20 km. Nice camp site, creek right in front. The creek was at like 15 degrees whereas the air temperature was at 40°C. My body did not overly like that, but it was very refreshing after all. During the night the temperatures got down enough for sleeping and the bath in the morning was much easier.

Sunday: Whiskeytown National Recreation Area – Crescent City

The only thing out of the ordinary was that the temperatures dropped below 20°C with quite a bit of wind, which led us to choose an accomodation over camping.

Monday: Crescent City – North Bend (Bastendorff County Campground)

Leaving California and entering Oregon, where the wind picked up even more and the temperatures dropped another 2 degrees. The campsite was pretty nice, under large pine trees, and you had a few spots overlooking the ocean and quite a nice sunset.

Tuesday: North Bend – Lincoln City (Devils Lake Oregon State Park Campground)

Further on north on the 101. The campsite this time was in Lincoln city at the Devils lake, the ocean just a five minute walk away, so yeah pretty nice again.
Currently it takes me about 20 minutes to put up the tent, including making the beds.

This concludes week #34
Till next time,
Happy Hacking everyone
