Panamerican Highway – week #47 – relaxation and the coast

[16/10/2024 – 23/10/2024]

Our Last Week – Whenever You Read IT

As we are slowing down, we basically only had five more days at the beginning of week 47 and by the end only three more riding days, we are starting to recap. While, i at least, have some troubles to grasp the enormity of what we have done. 13 countries, some 50’000 km, it is not just the journey but the time away from home. Especially with the election in the US, i wonder what has changed in Germany, while we were away. Of course, i followed the media, but that usually just provides a glimpse into what is going on, but it does not update you on the general vibe. While on our earlier trips, where we have been away for three months *ish there was not really a difference upon returning home. After eleven months there is a certain expectation that there is.

Wednesday: Island Falls

Thursday: Island Falls

Friday: Island Falls – Abbot

While in Island Falls we decided to leave Boston be Boston and just slow down and enjoy some more off days in the Maine countryside. Stefan found a nice home in Abbot, about ~170 km away from Island Falls. It did get a wee bit late, into sunset, due to us not leaving Island Falls in hurry. But the ride itself was marvelous. The colored trees and the landscape. Stefan routed us through a National Park, only gravel roads on the loop and then some ATV route.

Saturday: Abbot

Sunday: Abbot

Monday: Abbot

Tuesday: Abbot – Portland

Maine lobster is supposed to be the best one, and as we anyway decided not to venture into Boston, we stayed two nights in Portland. The ride was pretty good, little traffic down to the coast still all the colored forests, rivers, lakes. The only downside was that proper parking spots became scarce. But we got into Portland early enough, to see a bit of the city before sunset. One thing that jumped at us right from the start was the amount of rainbow flags which were even more then in San Francisco and rivaled parts of Canada. All in all the first impression of Portland was a rather good one.

This concludes week #47
Till next time
Happy Hacking Everyone
