Panamerican Highway – week #48 – still at the coast
[23/10/2024 – 30/10/2024[
Our Last Week – Whenever You Read IT
This is our second to last week, and we are not riding as much currently as we have been the past 10 months. Which gives time to let this journey sink in and also think about what needs to be done once home. While full normalcy will take till January, i realize that the homecoming is indeed the harder part of the journey. During our previous trips it was the same thing, but three and two months is a much shorter timespan. On a trip like this, the only persons you rely on is your little group. At home that little group gets a whole lot larger quickly, and a large percentage of persons in that group you do not have a close relationship with but are dependent on. That i am really not a fan of. But oh well decisions have consequences and that is one of them.
Anyway, it ll be great to be home again and see what the future holds.

Wednesday: Portland
Portland was a rather cool city to spend two nights. First off it is a very inclusive town, quite a lot of flags are flying and a bartender told us that Portland has been this way since the early 90´ies.
In addition they are at the sea and they did make something out of it, for everybody to enjoy, which cannot be said about many of the cities and towns we have visited.
Thursday: Portland – Nantasket
While it was again a very nice day with sunshine and unicorns. However the day took a bit of a turn as we discovered that my back tire lost air. Not really sure why, as this time there was no culprit to be found. Maybe the patch work of Stefan finally gave out, after some 18’000 km or something else. Does not matter, we had a look at the map and there was a shop close by, and while they did not answer their phone we decided to go there anyway and see if they would get the tire of the rim. Which they did and on top of that – as my back tire had to be replaced as well – i got a new one, as that shop was the first one to have a variety of tires in store. And to top it all off the traffic around Boston was not something we enjoyed, but we eventually we got to our B&B. A retired couple renting out rooms, lovely people and interested in what we have been up to. Learned that they have a second home down in Florida which they used to spend the winter time – snowbirds they called themselves – however with the two hurricanes that ran through Florida the past months it seems that they will have to get rid of that property (which they held for 20 some years)
Friday: Nantasket – Orleans
Cape Cod, i have been there 25 years ago while on a school exchange. Not that i remember much, besides the wonderful Atlantic coast. We had a very nice cottage which suited us well, for this being the last longer stay before we venture into New York City and subsequently home. While i went running today, the other days i have just spent being plane lazy.
Saturday: Orleans
Got my database fixed, i fucked up a few weeks ago, and it was much easier than anticipated. Haven’t compiled anything from source in a long long time. Current issue is that the raspbian repo is missing a few packages, which is why the frontend is not working yet, but oh well.
Sunday: Orleans
Monday: Orleans
Tuesday: Orleans – New London
Uh this was a cold riding day. While in the Cape the sun was still out, as soon as we got into New Hampshire, clouds started to cover the sky.
This concludes week #48
Till next time
Happy Hacking Everyone
